With a lone volunteer to manage the proposed daycare, Ilene Gross, and a full table of those ready to discuss the issues, two representatives from the ND Child Care Resource and Referral Agency provided information on what it would take to start a daycare in McClusky.
The representatives, Penny Smith and Angie Schwab provided information on grants, forming a non-profit corporation, having a 501-c-3 tax status, qualifications, child care assistance to families, and a workbook for planning and improving non-residential child care facilities locally.
A larger than usual attendance at the meeting included three city council members, including Mayor Theresa Jor-genson, Roberta Hunt and Jason Parsons. Also attending were Gross, local Daycare promoter Andrea Deseth, who chaired the meeting, and reporter Allan Tinker.
Gross had answered the ad that McClusky Job Development Authority had run in the search for a daycare manager, if one could be formed.
Other issues have included the location, meals, and funding. A proposed location is the former Holen Construction Building on the west edge of the city, but out of city limits. The First District Health Inspector Jake Windsor had previously inspected the site, according to Deseth and recommended needed changes to the building for health code compliance,
The daycare would need food prepared on site in an approved kitchen facility or food brought in from an outside certified source. Gross recommended that it be done within the daycare as she was familiar with costs, labor involved, and the transportation difficulties of other solutions.
