Commission competition collects couple of contenders
The Sheridan County Commission race spurred two residents to vie for the positions now held by incumbents Eldon Ehrman and Howard Erdmann. One is on the ballot and the second is a write-in candidate.

Richard Bentz is the write-n candidate for the position currently held by Eldon Ehrman, District 1. Timothy Strobel is the candidate for the position currently held by Howard Erdmann, District 3.
Richard Bentz, a small-grain and cattle farmer, lives northwest of McClusky with his wife Cheryl (Helm); they have three grown daughters and one granddaughter.
Bentz didn’t plan to run but was asked several times and finally agreed. “I will know that people want me if they write in my name and vote for me,” he smiled. “I know they will want a change.”
Bentz is a graduate of McClusky High School and has farmed with his father for many years, both together on family land in early years and together helping each other on their own separate farm land in later years. He purchased the land in Harris Township he lives on now from Alfred and Emma Herr; land that he rented for several years previously and also lived upon during that time.
Being a good financial manager and a good farmer are personal qualities of which Bentz is proud. “I am a common sense person,” he stated. “I believe in government that keeps its taxpayers well informed about where their tax dollars go.”
One of the biggest concerns he hears from most people is “Why aren’t the roads taken care of?” He would like to get the roads to at least “passable” as “85 percent aren’t.”
