City hires former Polar Ware employee

Tom Giese gathered a majority vote at the special meeting of the McClusky City Council on Monday, March 25. He will replace City Maintenance worker Steve Murray who resigned recently.
Included in the votes was a sealed ballot from Mark Miller who was not present for the official interviews.
Giese also presented a letter of reference from his former supervisor at Polar Ware Paul Hagen.
Andy Werth, Dorothy Estrada and Roberta Hunt were pres-ent for the meeting, along with McClusky Mayor Theresa Jorgenson and City Auditor Andrea Kluck.
Giese and the lone other applicant (another application was requested but not completed and returned) were both given a list of the expected duties including a March 2013 update for snow removal and other things that had been omitted from the first list.
The items include usual city maintenance duties such as snow removal, hydrant flushing, street and curb repairs and upkeep, lagoon and water systems checking and maintenance, documentation of waterworks inspections and repairs, weed control and removal on city properties, routine preventive maintenance of city equipment, agreement to evaluations including drug testing, and other such duties as directed by the city council. The job description list stated it was not a contract and subject to change.
Mayor Jorgenson stated the job was a salaried position and if duties were completed in less than 40 hours the employee could remain on call. She emphasized that all duties must be completed in a timely manner before pay increases would be considered.
