Cemetery upgrade improves drainage
By ALLAN TINKER
A drive through the McClusky City Cemetery this fall shows the improvements the hard work of the McClusky City Park Board accomplished. Where reeds and settling headstones had been, fill was added by A and G Construction, providing a firm barrier and drive on the east edge of the lots.
The half-acre of land was purchased from the Wahl family, adding to the security of keeping the lowland waters at bay, and allowing family of those buried in the area some ease in knowing their loved one’s burial site was being honored and receiving needed care.
The process was long and complex: a Devil’s Lake firm moved the monuments, marking the spots for their return, and placed them on the north end of the cemetery in a group. The land was then reclaimed from the seeping water and rebuilt.
