Cemetery trimmed, clean and ready for carvings
By ALLAN TINKER
The stumps await carving. The good trees, with dead and dying trees removed, have been trimmed neatly. The spaces below the trees and along the pathways allow for unimpeded access for both pedestrians and motor vehicles. A place of quiet rest, family memories, and well- maintained graves is a frequent visiting site for both families and those looking for connections to their own families, long gone from the area. Tammy Nordquist has kept the cemetery alive with proper maintenance and decorative touches. Several large stumps were left for Todd Hicks, who removed the other trees, to carve. She reported at the past Park Board District meeting, that everything is watered, trimmed and the machines
maintained and shut down. A bit of a new issue, stones starting to fall from the stone pillars at the entry way, will be addressed in warmer weather in the spring. Caulking and bonding will make it “like new.” With the dry weather at the end of the summer, weed treating will wait until spring as well, to prevent damage to other plant growth. With much effort, the cemetery upgrades have battled high water marks, tipping tombstones, limited funds, and trees that had died or become overgrown.
