Auction spans 10 decades of varied memories
BY ALLAN TINKER
The auction list was short for large items but hidden among the good-sized piles on the trailer, ground, and leaning against the barn wall,
items ranged from newer ladders to an old, large crock, used in the days of fermenting vegetables for winter food supplies. It was a sale that included memories of both personal and purchased items’ memories. The Thursday sale was for Clarence and Mae Hoffer, managed by ZBS Auctioneers of Harvey, ND, with Gil and Grace Steedsman serving as auctioneer and clerk. Also helping the success of the event were cousin Grace Arndt and her husband Melvin, respectively helping at the refreshment stand and the auction items. The farm is located eleven miles north, one mile west of McClusky. Clarence spent 42 years on the farm, purchased when his father Fred died.
