A slip and a save from Farm Rescue
The accident scene was one all too familiar to farmers and others who use ladders: a ladder on a slick surface and a sudden slide. This slip resulted in a severely fractured right arm and an only slightly less injured left arm for Kevin Korus of Denhoff. The only thing on this August Wednesday, an “unlucky” thirteenth day, that was lucky, was that Korus was able to walk to his house to telephone for help; he was unable to drive his truck or four-wheeler to cover the distance. Korus stated that his wife, Sherry, who had been at work at the Union Grill, drove him to medical facilities in Bismarck where he underwent surgery on his broken arms. His right arm has plates and screws holding it in place, with a good portion of his triceps (60 percent) torn in that arm, according to Korus. The good luck started after Korus got to the recovery room and woke up. There a nurse-practitioner stated her husband was a partsman at RDO equipment and “had he (Korus) thought of calling Farm Rescue?” She made the call to her husband and the necessary application was filled out and an opening in the Farm Rescue schedule enabled them to be at the Korus farm on Monday, only four days after the accident.
