The Miners of Wilton-Wing have been playing some good basketball in the past couple weeks.
Picking up a quality district win against the Garrison Troopers before Christmas, the Miners returned to work just days later for the Mandan Holiday Tournament where they won a pair of games against New Salem-Almont and Grant County to surprise a lot of people by earning a spot in the championship match against Shiloh Christian.
"The Mandan tournament was good for us," said Wilton-Wing boys head coach Brad Brekke. "We played well for the most part, but we ran into a very good Shiloh team and they made it very difficult to score. But I also think we learned a lot about ourselves in that game."
The tournament was broadcast over the AM radio waves and the Miners provided plenty of surprises for the broadcast announcers over the three-day event.
Wilton-Wing overcame a 15-point halftime deficit to put themselves into position to win their first round game against New Salem-Almont.
