Wilton-Wing takes fifth place over the holidays

Unlike other local area teams, the Miner boys weren’t sitting back and enjoying the holiday break from competitive basketball. Instead, Wilton-Wing participated in three straight days of games at the Mandan Holiday Tournament, December 27 through the 29. "I like having the Mandan tournament instead of the normal two weeks off," said Wilton-Wing Head Coach Brad Brekke. "It’s good to find out where we are conditioning wise as we have to play three games in three days." After being regulated to the consolation bracket after a defeat by the Mandan JV team, the Miners took down New Salem and then Flasher to claim the fifth place trophy on Wednesday. Their first game against the Mandan Braves JV team started out rough as their full-court pressure gave the Miners some trouble in the first half, causing 13 turnovers and put them down eight points at halftime. As they often do, Wilton-Wing battled back into the game using their deadly long-range accuracy. Down by ten points part way into the third quarter, the Miners went on a 12-3 run with three-pointers by Dillon Loper, Cory Keating, and a pair by Matt Jacobson to bring the Miners within one point of pulling even.
