The Wilton-Wing Miners offense had sputtered a bit in previous weeks, which was a concern for head coach Trevor Yetterboe. The coach decided to try some new positions for his girls, to get the current flowing in a new direction. Tonya Dickson has been his work horse on the mound, so on Saturday he decided to give her arm a break for a game or two.

Freshman Erin Thompson would get the start of game one Saturday against the Washburn Cardinals in Turtle Lake. Thompson shut down the Cardinals in the first and the Miners would slug their way to a 6-run inning on 6 hits. Thompson had only a few slips in the third and fifth giving up 11 hits and 9 runs, holding on for a 16-9 win. Karlee Arnold went 3-3 with 3 RBIs, Dickson was 2-2 with 4 RBIs, and Maddie Leidy was 4-4 with 4 RBIs.

The second game of the day would feature McKenna Weisenburger on the mound for the first time this season to face Westhope-Newburg-Bottineau. W-W’s Miners jumped out to a 2-run lead after one, but in the second WNB scored 3 runs on 3 hits. They added 4 more runs in the third and the Miners were never able to recover, falling to WNB 6-9. Karlee Arnold went 2-3 with a double and a triple. Leidy was 2-3 along with Sarah Selle.
