Wilton-Wing boys end season in districts

This year’s field of teams proved, with perhaps the exception of number one seed Turtle Lake-Mercer-McClusky, that this season’s tournament would be a closely contested contest with teams needing to play their best basketball every game for a chance at going to the next level. For the Wilton-Wing Miners that meant some missed shots and a few bad turnovers were the difference that will prevent them from appearing in the Regional Tournament this season. The Miners got through Center-Stanton in the first round before falling to eventual champion TLMM in the second round. The final night of the tournament, Wilton-Wing lost their Regional qualifying game against Garrison in a close 53-49. Wilton-Wing came into the tournament as the fourth seed; matching up with the fifth seeded Center-Stanton Wildcats in the tournament’s opening game. Christian Thompson, the Miners’ ace parameter player, carried the team through the first half, scoring all 13 of his points in the game before halftime. Leading 26-19 at the break, Wilton-Wing changed directions in the second half by going heavily inside to Ty Bergquist and Devin Weltz for points in the paint.
