Wilton’s elementary archery team is heading to Kentucky next month to take part in this year’s national competition after placing second in the state.
Miners took a trip to Minot last month to take part in this year’s North Dakota National Archery in the Schools Program state tournament on March 23 and 24. The elementary students took home a second place trophy and earned their spot at nationals.
“I’m excited for all of the archers who will be making the journey to Louisville, Kentucky to attend the National competition,” Coach Bob Ell said. The tournament is scheduled for May 10-12 and includes archers from the eastern half of the United States.
Ell said the school was one archer short of being able to form a middle school or high school team to compete at State, but that it is a goal for next year.
“With one archer short, our program did not have enough to compete as a team in the middle school division or high school,” Ell said. “Our hopes are that next year we take a team in each division to the ND state competition.”
