Wildcats outlast Cardinals in final regular season game
By Adam Thomas
Just a few days out from the start of the district tournament in Turtle Lake, the Cardinal volleyball team headed across the river to take on regional opponent Center-Stanton for the final game of the regular season. Washburn hung close to the Wildcats in all three games, but Center-Stanton used its height advantage up front to lay down some big hits late in all three sets to sweep that game 3-0. Washburn looked good at the start, moving quick to an early 8-2 lead in the first set thanks to several hits by junior Candy Ankenbauer and a tip over by Senior Sheree Ganje. Center-Stanton came fighting back soon after, starting off with an ace by Wildcat senior Holly Price. Hitters KaDee Berger and Jenny Erhardt led the attack to tie up the first set at 15 points apiece. That was the turning point where the Wildcats took the lead and didn’t look back, taking the set 20-25.
