Washburn teachers dominate Bismarck marathon relay

By Danielle Abbott

Early Saturday morning, the sun was just beginning to peek out from behind the trees and the air was beginning to warm. Though it was only 7:30 a.m., 850 runners made their way to Pioneer Park in Bismarck. The runners would spend their day competing in the Kroll’s Diner North Dakota Roughrider Marathon. Runners had their pick of several different divisions, including a full 26.2-mile marathon, a half marathon, a five-person marathon relay and a 5k Footfest. The Washburn cross country coaches and teachers had been practicing long and hard for this day. Running with their cross country team, they pushed themselves to compete with the force and determination that they brought to the marathon last year. During the 2007 marathon, three of this year’s five-member team ran to win the female relay.
