Washburn outgunned by Renville County

Washburn’s legion baseball team fought hard in their single game against Renville County on July 9. Starting off the game was a hard ground ball to short by Renville County, picking up a single. A force out from Reed Backman at shortstop to Cameron Hall at second gave Washburn their first out.
A hit deep past right fielder Landre Sondrol brought a double for Renville County, but they were not able to score in this inning, as a failed steal attempt and a force out to first ended their chances. Washburn’s chances were also tarnished after their first three batters were unable to make it on base.
Pitcher Trevor Schreiner struck out the second batter of the second inning after the first was walked. A caught pop fly to left fielder Karsen Blotske gave them a quick second out.
Washburn then switched pitchers, and Hall came up to the mound. A hit to Dylan Kaul at center field resulted in a single, and a dinger to right field brought both of Renville County’s runners home. A missed pop fly to left brought in one more run before the half inning was ended by a caught pop fly to Schreiner.
Offense for Washburn in this inning proved unsuccessful, with no runs coming in to close the gap. Only Backman was able to make it to base with a line drive to center field. Renville County ended the second inning with a three run lead.
