Washburn boys win two of three

By Adam Thomas, BHG News Service

The Washburn boys continue to go through the season with impressive wins, but they came into last week looking ahead to a couple of potential bumps in the road with games against district opponents: the Center-Stanton Wildcats and the Turtle Lake-Mercer-McClusky Trojans. The Cardinals turned it up in the fourth quarter to put away the Wildcats 66-55, but they couldn’t quite match the pace of the Trojans, losing 72-53. Washburn recovered just one day after their defeat, beating Flasher 61-55. In their first game of the week, the Cardinals faced the team that gave them their first loss of the year in the McLean County Tournament back in December, The Center-Stanton Wildcats. Center-Stanton showed that they could play with this improved Washburn team in the early going, keeping things all tied up going in the halftime break by using a diverse approach to score-getting.
