Washburn boys shooting hot into districts

The greatest strength for the Washburn boys basketball team is the ability for almost all their players to pull up for a big long-range shot. The Cardinals rely on their three-point shooting to give them that competitive boost and more often than not, that shot has been falling for the them this season. Totaling 22 three-pointers this week, the Cardinals took down Max 74-53 and New Salem 71-41. But they were just edged out in the end by Napoleon 54-52. The Cossacks came out against Washburn in the first game of the week by scoring the first six points from the tip-off. Washburn recovered after that with a three-point pull-up by Brett Schreiner and a put back layup from Kirk Sailer, but Max still led after the first quarter 14-12. Early in the second Schreiner hit another shot from downtown and then on the next possession, Monty Johnson burst up with a power-move layup that gave Washburn their first lead of the game 17-16. Evan Eberle added two more three-point shots and Ryan Kerzman controlled the paint to give Washburn a 10 point 33-23 lead at half time.
