Waloch state-bound in 800m

It is weeks like this that prove the mental fitness is just as big as physical fitness in the sport of track and field as athletes can never be sure of what conditions they are going to be asked to perform in. From extreme wind conditions at one meet this week to the pristine atmosphere of another, there is never any certainty in the world of outdoor sports. But despite it all, it was another successful week of track meets for the Southern McLean Roughrider track team with two more state qualifying performances in the books. Abi Waloch, the name synonymous with dominance in the 800m, put in that little bit extra to run a state qualifying time of 2:25 at the Sakakawea Country Classic in Hazen. “She defended her 800m title once again and this time qualified for state,” said Southern McLean coach Shayla Sinclair. “She is learning to pace herself to run ‘her’ race and not just go on what other runners in the race are doing.” Also sprinting past the state qualifying time was the boys 4x100m relay team that qualified in a meet up in Rugby.
