Two Southern McLean athletes fought their way through some stiff competition this weekend, landing themselves on the podium at the 2018 State Track and Field meet.
Taking third for Class B girls, senior Alexis Waldren earned herself a plaque on Saturday with a 110-foot, 7-inch throw. Waldren was seven feet, two inches short of the first-place throw out of Killdeer, and five feet, three inches short of No. 2 Rugby. Waldren also took part in the shot put competition, where she placed 15th.
After placing ninth in the preliminary run of the 200-meter dash, Roughrider Denny Neustel shaved 0.44 seconds off his time and took a seventh-place trophy in the event. Denny also participated in the 400-meter dash, where he placed 16th.
