Volleyball ends season on high note

It was a long journey to get here. A summer and fall of staying six feet apart during practice, masks on the bus and following all other COVID-19 guidelines. Nobody knew if we would get to this point at the beginning, but Monday night the Cardinals capped off a winning season with a Nov. 2 victory over Underwood.
Washburn shot right out of the gate and put the Comets down by eight early. The Cardinals had leads of up to eleven and easily won the first set, 25-17. The second set saw Washburn struggle out of the gates. Still, the Cardinals would earn and hang on to a healthy lead and put the pressure on Underwood going into the final set.
A 5-1 start put the Cards on the right path to a three-set sweep. Underwood did not have an answer and Washburn finished the regular season at 10-9. WHS would get Standing Rock as their opponent for Thursday’s Regional Play-in game.
