In a pivotal match in Region 5 in front of no fans on Tuesday Oct. 27, the Garrison Troopers came away with a big win over the Cardinals of Washburn.

The Cardinals started the first set strong, but Garrison heated up, scoring six in-a-row to take a 7-5 lead. Washburn regained the advantage at 9-8, followed by two errors by the Troopers. After a timeout, Garrison came right back at the Cards. A block gave them the lead. The rest of the set was a back-and-forth affair. The Troopers finished it off 25-23.

Five consecutive points gave Garrison the first big lead of the second set, 11-6. The Cardinals trudged through the rest of the set, but then something clicked. Washburn started their own five-point run, going up 21-20. The lead would continue to grow until Washburn won the set on a close call near the back line. The question was if it went off of one the Cardinal player’s arm and out-of-bounds. The refs and line judge ruled it untouched and the Cardinals were safe.
