Third-seeded Cardinals ready for Districts

The Washburn Cardinals boys basketball team didn't get the lead-up to the postseason that they were looking for when they lost their final two games of the regular season against Flasher and Harvey-Wells County, but they'll still be going into the district tournament with high hopes as the number three seed when the postseason kicks off on their home court Friday.

Against the Flasher Bulldogs, the Cardinals were down early and had to play the majority of the game from behind. At halftime, Washburn was down 10 points, 25-15.

Holding Flasher to only six points in the third, Washburn put together a run that extended into the fourth quarter when Koby Hansen hit a three-point shot that gave Washburn the lead.

It was back-and-forth the rest of the way, but Washburn found themselves down by two points with 30 seconds left in the game with possession of the ball.

However, during a timeout, the officials and the scorer's table came together to issue a correction to the score that added another point to Flasher's lead; the point had been left off the score after a Bulldog free throw several possessions prior.
