The hunt is on again

When Charles Sorensen of Riverdale fell while emptying boxes out of a trailer, he was lucky to have use of his arms. He never thought he would be able to pick up a gun and go hunting for the big one. That was until John Tunge, manager at Lake Sakakawea State Park got an idea that would help him and others permanently confined to a wheelchair live out their passion for hunting once again. Tunge’s friend was injured during the Vietnam War, which left him paralyzed. He is an avid hunter and fisher. “We were talking about deer hunting, and he had been to a couple of different ones where they line everyone up and try to chase deer past them,” the manager said. “He said, ‘It’s not hunting.’” Tunge started conversations with locals and park officials to get a hunt started. He wanted to provide them with a place to hunt and a way to get down to their blinds. And the rest is hunting history.
