After being delayed two weeks thanks to the unpredictable nature of North Dakota weather, track and field athletes for the Southern McLean Roughriders hit the ground running for their first meet of the year last weekend at the Sakakawea Country Classic in Hazen. The team’s initial schedule listed seven meets prior to this one that either never happened or got delayed which now puts the team smack dab in the middle of the season before they finally got a taste of competition. “It was a great first meet. It was awesome to finally get outside, on such a nice day,” said Southern McLean Coach Shayla Sinclair. The team made the most of their first appearance by being competitive in a number of events. Most of all, the girls side was especially impressive as they grabbed two event champions and several other high finishes.
