Southern McLean falls to Hazen in Homecoming game

By Adam Thomas, BHG News Service

Playing the second-ranked team in the state isn’t exactly ideal for a homecoming game where you are celebrating the history of the football program… or in this case the start of a new tradition. But that was the task set before the Southern McLean Roughriders on Friday when they took the field against the Hazen Bison. The Bison had all the momentum early, scoring multiple unanswered touchdowns through the first three quarters, but Southern McLean finished the game strong with back-to-back scores to get on the board in the 4th quarter to break the shutout. The game ended as a 50-14 loss for the Roughriders. Four touchdowns in the first quarter put the Roughriders in a big hole early; one of those scores coming after Hazen recovered an onside kick. The Bison heavily went to the run, using their bigger size to their advantage, taking in all four touchdowns on the ground.
