Southern McLean cross country runs first meet

The Southern McLean Roughriders cross country team ran in their first meet last week at The Originals Invitational in Jamestown. The meet brought together 19 teams, and Southern McLean ran well against many of the class A and B schools. The first run is one where some of the weaknesses can show, but coach Laura Tweeten was proud of the performance that the youth put out considering it was the first year for many. The team consists of 13 runners, and eight ran the first meet. Keisha Schock, a junior, is the only varsity runner for the team and put in the longest run, a 4K. She finished 47th with a time of 18:12. Tweeten said Schock had a goal of breaking into the 17 minute range, but for the first meet she only missed it by seconds. All other runners ran in junior varsity, and the girls JV team pulled off a ninth place finish out of 19 teams in a 3K race. That was a strong start to the year.
