Shiloh knocks Washburn out in regional first round

After the District 10 Tournament ended, the Washburn Cardinals had a week to prepare for their biggest game of the year.
Coming in as the fourth seed out of District 10, the Cardinals were slotted to play the number one seed from District 9, the Shiloh Skyhawks, in the first round of the regional tournament that took place last week Monday at the Bismarck Event Center.
The Cardinals and the Skyhawks didn't have a meeting during the regular season so this matchup was going to be an exercise in first impressions, and nobody made a bigger impression on this game than Jacob Oberlander.
The Cardinal senior rose to the occasion, channeling a Steph Curry-like accuracy from beyond the three-point line that was crucial in helping Washburn keep pace with Shiloh through four quarters.
The Skyhawks came out in the first quarter, firing on all cylinders. With three shots from beyond the arc, Shiloh had a productive first quarter with 19 points. Oberlander and Caleb Weisgarber led the way for Washburn, but couldn't match that early Skyhawk efficiency with the score after the first at 19-15.
But the vaunted Cardinal defense took hold in the second quarter and started to limit Shiloh's easy looks at the basket. Washburn got to within one point of the lead several times, but couldn't hit that extra basket to take ownership in the first half.
