An array of Southern McLean athletes will travel to Bismarck this week to take part in the North Dakota Class B State track meet.
Just over a dozen Roughriders will participate in the State meet Friday and Saturday after qualifying for events throughout the season, including last weekend’s regional meet.
During the South Central Region meet on Saturday, Southern McLean boys placed second, just five points behind Carrington.
“Saturday was a great day for a meet,” Coach Laura Tweeten said. “We didn't go into the meet looking to be region champs, we went in looking to qualify as many athletes as we could.”
Koby Hansen took first in high jump, Dakota Harrison took second in shot put and Cody Blazek placed second in Discus. Tate Bertolotto took third in both the long jump and javelin events.
On the track, Denny Neustel took second in the 400-meter dash and third in the 200-meter. Colton Hyttinen took third in both the 800-meter and 1600-meter dash. A team of Neustel, Hansen, Hyttinen and Ben Frederick took second in the 4x400 meter relay. Neustel, Bertolotto, Blazek and Hansen took third in the 4x200 relay and Frederick, Hyttinen, Ezra Vogle and Tyler Dahme took third in the 4x800 meter relay.
