Roughriders rise in the fourth quarter to overcome Cougars

Needing to win their final two games of the year to get into the postseason, the Southern McLean Roughriders came up against the Central McLean Cougars last week, for the battle of McLean County.
Sometimes, a win is a win, no matter how bad it looks, and that certainly applies in this instance.
Despite being ineffective through three quarters, the Roughriders got some big plays from players who stepped up to the moment in the fourth quarter, allowing the team to come back and steal the win 12-7.
Despite the impact that a potential win had for both teams, almost the entire first half was very muted, as defenses for both teams did their jobs all too well.
The only time either team got close to scoring was late in the second quarter, with Central McLean threatening around the 20-yard line.
But the Roughrider defense forced it into a fourth-and-11 with 1:16 on the clock. Attempting to go for the score before halftime, the Cougars ran a play that was stopped dead by Southern McLean’s Devin Retterath, when he brought the quarterback down behind the line for a sack.
