The Southern McLean Roughriders suited up and hit the field for the first time this fall, facing off against the Bishop Ryan Lions Saturday afternoon.
The Roughrider team, made up of athletes from Washburn, Wilton and Wing, traveled to Killdeer this weekend in the season opener. The home team kicked off the game with a touchdown, taking a quick 6-0 lead over Southern McLean.
The Lions would hold the lead through the rest of the quarter, and, with just seconds left on the clock, steal one more touchdown, along with the extra point. Going into the second quarter with a goose egg on the scoreboard, the Roughriders were looking to even things up.
Seeing an opening, Southern McLean would take a shot, long-arming the ball to sophomore Dylan Williams, who would score the only goal of the game for the team. The Lions would respond with a pair of touchdowns, heading into halftime with a 27-6 lead.
