Roughriders lose nail-biter to Cougars
Southern McLean took the field on a hot muggy night in Wilton on Sept. 1, looking to corral the Cougars of Heart River, which would have given them a 3-0 start to the season, a feat the local co-op had not accomplished in many years. The Roughriders received the opening kickoff and proceeded to march right down the field but a fumble deep in Cougar territory would end the drive.
Heart River would strike first and hard, as the Cougars would convert the turnover into points with a long touchdown run. The Roughrider defense would stiffen though, and deny the twopoint conversion, with Heart River lighting the scoreboard with a 6-0 lead
