As the Friday night light’s slowly got brighter over the field in Washburn this past Friday, there was a palatable sense of anticipation as the Roughrider’s faced off against the Lions of Minot Bishop Ryan (season.

As most expected it turned out to be an entertaining event contested between two evenly matched squads.

The first quarter found both teams offenses punching, counterpunching and searching for an opening as both teams defense was stout. In the end it was the defenses who won, as the quarter closed with goose eggs on the scoreboard for both sides.

The second quarter looked as if it would be more of the same, until lightning struck from the visiting sidelines, as the Lions’ running back broke a couple of tackles and weaved his way to pay dirt. An extra point later and the Lions were up 7 to nothing.

The Roughriders had several drives in the first half that looked promising but turnovers or penalties all led to them coming up short. The gun ending the second period saw the visiting side maintaining its seven point lead going into the break.
