Roughriders drop season finale to Trinity

Roughriders drop season finale to Trinity

BY OWEN PATTERSON

It was a battle all Friday night in chilly Dickinson, but after 48 minutes of football, the Trinity Titans defeated the Southern McLean Roughriders 22-6. The loss capped the season for most and the career for some.

Both the Roughriders and Titans punted on their first possession of the game and on the first play of Southern McLean’s second, Alex Retterath was sacked behind the goal line for a safety. Trinity took an unorthodox 2-0 early lead. Trinity would get the ball back right away and score a touchdown on a 20-yard pass from senior quarterback Drew Kovash to wideout Tysen Praus.

DonTaye Fetzer coughed up the football on the following kickoff and the Titans were back in good field position. The Southern McLean defense rose up and stopped the opponent from scoring in the red zone. It wouldn’t go as well on the next drive though.
Kovash went to the air again and found Aiden Haich for a short gain, what followed was one of the worst tackling displays a football fan has probably ever seen. Haich broke not one, not two, but four tackle attempts on his way to a 31-yard touchdown. The score put Trinity comfortably in front 16-0 — still in the first quarter.
