Friday and Saturday marked the North Dakota State Track Meet, the culmination of all the hard work athletes have put in all season long. The Southern McLean boys and girls teams went in to the Class B division with a bus load of state qualifiers and came out with more than a few place winners when everything was said and done. “All in all, we felt it was a very successful state meet,” said Southern McLean Track Coach Shayla Sinclair. “It was awesome to have so many events qualified that we were going everywhere. Many times, we had more than one event going on at the same time.” The boys’ team had a pair of placing events. Pole vaulting aficionado Monty Johnson brought home the highest honors of all the Southern McLean athletes with second place in his event. Johnson just missed clearing the 13-foot mark, and because of that, he ended as the runner-up this year. “He finished exactly where he was state ranked,” said Coach George Levey. “We are looking to the future already because he is definitely seeking the state title with a lot of hard work throughout the summer and into next year.”
