The Roughriders came into their homecoming matchup with Killdeer needing a win to keep their playoff hopes alive Friday. The Cowboys have been dominating since having a season opening loss to Dickinson Trinity ripping off four straight wins and are tied for first in region 4 with Hazen.
SM new they would have their work cut out for them with Killdeer’s high powered offense that has put up over 40 points three times this season.
Head coach Josh Harvey decided to open with the onside kick that did fool the Cowboys but the Roughriders were unable to recover which would have been a great confidence boost right off the bat.
The Roughriders would play against the short field on the Cowboys first possession that would turn into the first score of the game for the Cowboys.
SM would have to punt on their first possession but hold on defense to allow the offense another shot at it. The offense would again sputter out after a few small gains and on the next possession Killdeer marched down the field and punched it in from a few yards out.
