The Washburn cross country team heads to the Hillcrest Golf Course in Jamestown this Friday, ready to take on the competition in the first cross country meet of the season, the Jamestown “Orr”iginals. This will be the first test for the Roughrider harriers, who have three top-100 runners from last year’s state meet , freshman Abi Waloch, who finished third; freshman McKenna Weisenberger, who finished 39th; and junior Tienna Johnson, who finished 89th out of last year’s field of 198 runners at state. Head Coach Laura Tweeten is hoping for some good individual finishes from those girls again this year, but even more-so is focused on some good team finishes.
“I’m hoping to be in the top five this year,” said Tweeten. “But we’ve got to work hard. We’ve got to do a lot of work, but I think it’s a good goal for us to shoot for.”
