Megan Jean Hertz was riding before she could walk, it only makes sense that by 10 she would be a rodeo advocate and Princess pursuing her passion.
On March 10, Megan was crowned the first Miss Rodeo North Dakota Winter Show Princess. The North Dakota Winter Show has been going on since 1937 but just introduced a princess title last spring. Megan has since been representing the Winter Show at parades, rodeos and other events across North Dakota these past months.
“Rodeo is wonderful for everyone. It has taught me more than I even know about life and I’d like more than anything to get people hooked just like I was,” Megan said.
After competing in her first Little Britches Rodeo, Megan never laid the reigns down. Every win and loss has benefited Megan allowing her to grow in the arena. Rodeo superstars like Chayni Chamberlain and Amberley Snyder inspire Megan with their cowgirl grit. Along with these positive role models, faith and family were also big influencers in sharing the love of rodeo with Megan.
“My family is a big part of what got me started,” said Megan. “They’re forever reminding me how to be my best self and to build others along the way.”
With a younger sister looking up to her, Megan keeps focused to do her best. Megan tries to show her little sister that anyone can do anything they set their mind to.
