Post 12 sneaks by Astros

Cody Durkee does not swing a heavy bat. Instead he relies on his keen eyesight to force pitchers to deliver a near perfect shot. That awareness makes him perfect for the lead off position in the batting order. During last week’s second Section 7 doubleheader against Hazen, Durkee put himself on base four of the five at bats. None as important as the top of the eighth when Durkee came through with a lead off single that sparked Washburn-Wilton-Center-Stanton’s highest offensive output of the night. "He made it happen. He is going to be the table setter for me," coach Kip Erickson said. Durkee had three hits and two walks in the game that showcased the Post 12 comeback power by erupting for a seven-spot in the top of the eighth. Notwithstanding an Alex Barfield grand slam in game one, WWCS won 15-8. Then in the second contest, Post 12 outlasted Hazen 9-6. "Defensively we covered the ground pretty well. In the eighth it showed me that we were patient at the plate and got a few walks," Erickson said. "Those made the big difference of the game."
