Post 12 prepares for tourney
By Michael Johnson, Editor
The rain season continues to slow the practices for area baseball teams, yet the Post 12 team will be ready for the opening tournament of the season, which starts Friday. The second annual Steve Kenner Memorial baseball tournament provides the first games of the season for the team. They’ll see such teams as Hope-Finley, Jamestown (B), Hazen, Steele and Nelson County. The tournament was started by the Washburn American Legion to honor fallen police officer Steve Kenner who was shot and killed. Games were planned to start at 11 a.m. each of the three days of the Steve Kenner Memorial Tournament. The Post 12 players include Washburn, Wilton, Center-Stanton, Turtle Lake and Underwood players. Head coach Kip Erickson said he’s looking forward to a good season. He welcomes back four players who played baseball at Washburn for four years each. Those are Kirk Sailer, Evan Eberle, Jesse Henke and Connor Thompson.
