Post 12 pours on the wins in race for top spot

After Washburn’s Post 12 pounded away at Hazen June 25, it appeared the team had grown leaps and bounds from their visit to the College World Series. The team rolled up their sleeves and knocked in 15 hits to earn 20 runs in three innings against the Hazen ball players. While the bats were still blazing, the Washburn team took on Garrison at home and quickly fell behind 8-4 in the sixth inning. It looked like the boys had lost their wind as Garrison’s Reid Groninger cut down each batter. Then in the bottom of the sixth inning the tables turned. Groninger allowed Connor Thompson, Jesse Henke and Sam Goos to fill the plates on singles and walks. All-state class B baseball player Brett Schreiner got up to the plate and cracked one over the 320 foot sign to tie the game with a grand slam. Titan players tried to shake it off and considered it a fluke when Zach Hruby stepped up and knocked one over the 340 foot sign to allow Post 12 their first lead in the game. Two more would score before the inning ended 11-8.
