It seemed like it would be a tight race between Washburn, Beulah and Hazen for the No. 1 seed going into the Section 7 Tournament. Following Monday night’s game it was clear that Washburn’s Post 12 team was worthy of that seat.Post 12 defeated Beulah twice on Thursday and on Monday edged out Hazen to earn the top spot. Hazen was then in second and Beulah in third. If Post 12 can beat those teams in the sectional tournament this week, they’ll claim the championship for the third year in a row."You want that No. 1 seed," head coach Kip Erickson said.It allows the team a bye the first round. The team showed great athleticism in their games this week, much as they have been doing this season. Against Beulah, Post 12 had a slow start. They were down 5-1 in the third inning, but pitcher Kirk Sailer stopped Beulah at that point and the hitting started up. Chance Kurle has been a constant threat at the plate. He went 3-for-4 in the game. Jesse Henke went 1-for-2 and Kirk Sailer was 1-for-3. Those hitters added up seven runs in the sixth inning to finish the game 11-5 over Beulah.
