Pederson named volunteer of the year
Audubon Refuge Partners, Inc., recognized contributors to another year of success during a volunteer appreciation luncheon on Oct. 29 at Audubon National Wildlife Refuge.
The luncheon was hosted by refuge staff and served by Kyle’s Katering, and was followed by recognition of several volunteers. President Mary Ellen Parker of Washburn, Vice President Nikki Pederson of Coleharbor, Secretary Sherry Leslie of Burlington, and Treasurer Gayle Schumann of Washburn, all received their choice of a bluebird nesting box or a bat house, for their dedication in leading the organization.
The volunteer of the year award was presented to Dennis Pederson, Coleharbor, ND. Dennis was instrumental in securing grant funding, driving for the refuge tram tours, assisting youth at special events such as the annual Blue Goose Day and Halloween Adventure Event, providing information and outreach for the refuge, and helping with the ND Junior Duck Stamp Program. Dennis received a Great Plains Wildlife Photography book, wildflower and bird field guides, and a flashlight.
The mission of this group is to provide support to Audubon National Wildlife Refuge in providing quality wildlife habitat and wildlife-oriented environmental education and recreational experiences for both youth and adults.
