No answer for full court press

The Wilton-Wing Miners boys basketball team traveled to District 10 rival Garrison Tuesday night for an early season pivotal game. The young team looked to rebound after a close loss last week to Solen.

The first quarter opened with a quick three by No. 23 Slade Schatz, followed by No. 3 Tate Dickson hitting a couple of buckets. Garrison called timeout and came out after with a 13-2 run, prompting a timeout by the Miners. No. 32 Brandon Jenkins hit a three at the buzzer to end the first quarter that brought the Miners faithful to their feet. Both teams began trading buckets in the second, but turnovers by the Miners helped Garrison go into half with a 37-27 lead.

Coach Trevor Yetterboe’s game plan to implement a full court press in the second half really was the story of the game. Turnovers from the Troopers turned into odd man breaks by the Miners. Easy layups and two-on-ones frustrated the troopers and took the strength of the Troopers half-court offense out of the game. By the end the third quarter, the Miners had evened the score at 50.
