The Wilton-Wing Lady Miners took on the South Border Mustangs at home on Oct. 7, but fell short of victory with a 3-1 set loss.
Set one would open up with a couple net violations from the Mustangs and an out of rotation call on the Miners. Both teams tightened up on silly errors quick and would tie at 4-4.
Kalyssa Schock would get a double play at the net, going up for kills both times. The score would tie up again at 8-8, Mustangs break out first to go 9-8 but Miners would slide out right away and jump ahead with the lead. Taryn Schurhamer would chalk up an ace for the Miners helping build a lead. Courtney Seelye and Schock both cashed in on kills before a Mustang timeout called at 15-12, Miners with the lead.
Hailey Quam gained a big block up front while Jordyn Thorson snagged a kill. Miscommunication amongst the Mustangs let a free ball drop on their side. Mustangs would not go quietly however as they gained back to back ace serves 23-19 and 23-20. Seelye landed a tip for the Miners to slide out. Schock would wrap things up with hit for set one, 25-21 Miners win.
Miners lost the serve right away in set two but a soft rolling hit by Thorson would slide them out. Thorson would then receive a kill along with Quam. Possessions would go back and forth as both teams tied at 5-5, 8-8 and 11-11. Mustangs would finally build a lead after Miners serve receive struggled to get a clean first pass. Miners powered their way back up the scoreboard however with a tip from Quam and deep push from Kiara Johnson. Mustangs managed to outscore the Miners taking the second set 25-21.
