The Wilton-Wing Lady Miners concluded their volleyball season with a third place finish in the regional tournament in New Salem on Nov. 14.
The Miners were placed as the third seed going into the tournament. Miners would beat the Underwood Comets 3-0 to advance to the semifinals. Shiloh Christian Skyhawks would beat the Miners 3-1, sending the Miners to battle it out with Garrison-Max Troopers for third.
Miners and Troopers played hard against one another in the third place match stacking up multiple ties throughout the sets. Miners would start off with slight lead before Troopers answered back taking the lead at 5-4. Serve receive would be Miners downfall as the first pass was all over the court. While center campfire was a great spot for Miners to attack, errors on the Miners own side would lead to a 13-7 deficit. A slideout at 11-20 would pick things up for the Miners as switch ups at the net threw the Trooper defense off. Well placed tips by the Miners continued to work well as they started to eat away at the Troopers lead. Things would be tied up 23-23 before a point by point battle broke out at the end. Troopers would squeeze out with the victory 27-25 to take set one.
