Miners win Silver League Consolation in tournament

By Adam Thomas, BHG News Service

The Wilton-Wing Miners volleyball team hasn’t yet shown the result on paper that Head Coach Craig Johnson knows his team will eventually be capable of. Instead, their success so far this year has been made up of little things – better serving coming together one game and then better passing the next – that will eventually add up and transition into marks in the win column. During last week’s action, the Miners took the Flasher Bulldogs to five sets while on the road on Tuesday, but were ultimately beaten out in the very end. But their biggest challenge of the week would be the Center Invitational Volleyball Tournament. Unlike most of the teams in the tournament, the Miners were one of the few who played all their matches on Saturday. Wilton-Wing played a total of five games over the course of the day, three in pool-play and two in the silver league bracket, before ending with a win in the silver league consolation round. The team was missing one of its usual starters for the tournament so they were working in several people off the bench all through the day. “The more we can work in people in situations like this the better it’ll be for the long run,” said Coach Johnson.
