The No. 1 seed going into the District 10 tournament came out with a third-place trophy on Saturday, after a two-point loss broke the Miners’ undefeated season.
Wilton-Wing had so far bested all of its district competitors this year when it entered the weekend’s District 10 tournament in Washburn, optimistic for a chance at regional competition.
The team, slotted as the No. 1 seed, earned a bye in the first round and instead observed its competitors duking it out on Feb. 13. Washburn, Underwood and Center-Stanton would make their way to the semifinals, with the Miners slated to do battle with the No. 3 Wildcats for a chance at the championship.
After a slow and steady first quarter that ended with the teams separated by a single point, things would heat up in the second, as Center-Stanton started to pull ahead.
