Miners send Bulldogs packing

It’s a very different looking team for Wilton-Wing Miner volleyball this year. After graduating a large part of their varsity squad, the Miners have a lot of new faces taking on significant roles.
"We’re definitely a different team this year and have quite a few girls filling spots with little or no varsity experience," said Wilton-Wing Head Coach Alison Christian, who is returning for her second year as head coach of the program. "These girls are much improved since last year, and I believe they will be ready to fill those spots and be successful."
As is to be expected under the circumstances, the start of the season as been a mixed bag for Wilton-Wing, as the team gets acclimated to the pace of real competition. In action last week, they pulled out a five-set win against Flasher at home, but a few days later fell to Garrison-Max on the road 3-1.
The team looked good early on against the Bulldogs on Tuesday. By alternating Paige Hausauer and McKenzie Thorson in the front line, the Miners always have someone with height contesting shots and putting pressure on the opposing team. Combined with some well placed shots in the back row, Wilton-Wing won the first two sets and was threatening to sweep the Bulldogs.
