Miners ravage Cardinals

A tenacious Washburn team did its best to remain within relative striking distance of their adversary, but ultimately couldn’t solve Wilton-Wing’s superior depth and trademark pressure defense in a 65-45 loss for the visiting Cardinals.
A shot-clock buzzer-beating trey by Alex Retterath (11 points) propelled the Redbirds to a promising start at 3-2 in the first quarter. Subsequent free throws by an aggressive Tyler Kulzer and a imperious Jack Retterath drive increased the Washburn lead to 10-6.
Undaunted, however, the hometeam Miners claimed the lead they would never relinquish at the two minute mark, when Gage Schuh cashed in on a well-placed inside feed on his dribbledrive and punctuated the play by converting a free throw at 11-10.
