With the junior varsity tournaments taking up the latter half of the week, the Wilton-Wing varsity teams only had time enough to take the floor for one matchup: last Tuesday’s doubleheader against the Center-Stanton Wildcats.
The two games couldn’t have been more different. The lady Miners outclassed their counterparts in a 49-8 blowout, while the boys’ game was a thrilling overtime affair where Wilton-Wing got that one extra boost to pull out a win by the narrowest of margins, 49-48.
The girls were the first to take to the court and it didn’t take long for the Miners to put this one away early.
Wilton-Wing easily jumped out to a big lead and didn’t have any problems finding players to get the ball through the hoop.
Jocelyn Bergquist and Heidi Clausen combined for a large chunk of the Miners’ scoring in the first half before Tienna Johnson and Tonya Dickson took over the scoring roles in the second half.
On the other end of the court, Center-Stanton didn’t have any answers for the Miner defense that forced frequent turnovers before the Wildcats even got into a position to shoot the ball.
